Oil paintings on panel related to Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641): multidisciplinary research and results
The research project, led by Justin Davies at the University of Amsterdam and KU Leuven, is a multidisciplinary, intersectional investigation into the oil paintings of Anthony van Dyck. The research includes analysis of dendrochronological findings and recording and analysis of panel maker’s and Guild marks, allied with traditional art historical scholarship such as new and reviewed archival research and connoisseurship. Such systematic research into the œuvre of one artist has not been
undertaken before. The research will identify new patterns ni the use of panels by Van Dyck and his copyists, adding previously unexplored elements to existing knowledge on the artist and 17th century panel paintings.
