Study and promote European art (15th to 18th centuries), particularly from the Southern Netherlands. Contribute to the development of the scientific investigation of artworks, collaborate in heritage conservation-restoration expertise and encourage research in restoration history.
Fellowships and funding
1. Doctoral thesis fellowship
The Foundation awards a doctoral fellowship for research in the field of European Art History of the 14th-18th centuries or in the field of Conservation-Restoration of European Art (14th-18th centuries) in a practical, critical or historical approach. This one-year scholarship will be renewable three times.

2. Postdoctoral research fellowship
The Périer-D’Ieteren Foundation grants its support to a European visiting researcher at a Belgian university, to carry out postdoctoral research in the fields of art history or conservation-restoration under the supervision of a member of the university’s teaching staff. The grant will be awarded for a period of three to six months. The Foundation also offers selected researchers complimentary accommodation on its premises for the duration of the fellowship. The application form can be completed either in English or in French.

3. Publication Grants
Every year, the Foundation awards grants for the publication of a doctoral thesis or for a publication that represents a significant advance in the fields of European art history (14th to 18th centuries), conservation-restoration or the technical study of artworks.

4. Preliminary Study Grants (conservation-restoration)
The Foundation funds a preliminary study for the conservation-restoration of a work that is representative of the history of European art dating from the 14th to the 18th century. It must be carried out by a qualified Belgian conservator and take into account the authenticity of the object, as well as its historical and aesthetic dimensions.

5. Aid to a public or religious institution for the conservation, restoration, acquisition or enhancement of a work of art
Each year, the Fondation Périer-D’Ieteren awards a grant (maximum €50,000) for the acquisition, conservation, restoration or enhancement of a work (15th-18th centuries) intended for or belonging to a Belgian public or religious institution. The project must demonstrate the artistic or historical value of the work and must clearly highlight the enhancement policy that will be developed once the work has been acquired and/or restored. Restoration work must be carried out by a qualified restorer working in Belgium.

6. Périer-D’Ieteren Foundation / Academia Belgica scholarship in art history and heritage conservation
Annual research scholarship for the study of one or more early modern artists from the Southern Netherlands (16th-18th centuries) whose work was influenced by Italy, in all art forms (drawing, manuscript illumination, painting, sculpture, tapestry, architecture), or the comparative study of Belgian and Italian attitudes towards conservation treatments. This scholarship allows a master’s or doctoral degree holder in art history from a Belgian university to carry out research in Rome for two months (Academia Belgica).
