The Annunciation Altarpiece in Aix. Narrative, Prophecy and Fulfilment in Late Medieval Art.
Christian Heck‘s work does not concern the identification of the author of the Annunciation altarpiece in Aix-en-Provence, for which the name of Barthélémy d’Eyck is now accepted by the vast majority of art historians. The research presented here, however, is based on a complete re-examination of the significance of the work, and is focused on an iconographic analysis of the entire open altarpiece, revealing the profound coherence of the relationship between the painted wings and the central panel.
