Cahier Henry van de Velde No. 18: The Hôtel Otlet
The Fondation Périer-D’Ieteren has provided financial support for the publication of Cahier Henry van de Velde No. 18, which focuses on the Hôtel Otlet, one of the few Art Nouveau buildings by architect and designer Henry van de Velde in Brussels, built between 1896 and 1898. This issue, published by the Fonds Henry van de Velde association, explores this work in detail, highlighting the close collaboration between Van de Velde, who worked as an interior designer, and the architect Octave Van Rysselberghe. Their partnership, which began with the design of the building, is highlighted by the remarkable coherence of the project. As well as analysing this exceptional architecture, the Cahier focuses on Paul Otlet, the man who commissioned the hotel, and his role in the history of the building. Both a monograph and a triptych, this publication aims to enrich research on this major work and on the three central figures of this unique project.
