Solomon invites Bathsheba to share the throne – Maison du Roi
The Fondation Périer-D’Ieteren has contributed to the acquisition of an exceptional tapestry dating from 1530, in collaboration with the City of Brussels, the King Baudouin Foundation and De Wit vzw. The tapestry, which depicts King Solomon inviting his mother Bathsheba to share the throne, is now on display at the Musée de la Ville de Bruxelles – Maison du Roi. It is a precious testimony to Brussels’ expertise and the importance of tapestry production in the city’s history. This magnificently preserved piece is part of a unique series on the life of Bathsheba, combining scenes from the lives of David, Bathsheba and Solomon. The acquisition of the tapestry, which took place at TEFAF 2024 in Maastricht, was made possible thanks to a tailor-made philanthropic solution that raised the necessary funds. The work will be exhibited for two years, before being placed in reserve for preventive conservation reasons, but it will be presented to the public again in the future.
